Wicked Film Festival 2009
Wicked Young Filmmakers Training Programme
The Wicked Young Filmmakers Training Programme was back again this summer to train budding actors, directors and camerapersons from all over County Wicklow in the art of filmmaking.
The Wicked Young Filmmakers Training Programme is in its fourth year this year and is collaboration between The County Wicklow Film Commission and The Wicklow County Arts Office.
During the weeklong training course participants learned to write, act, shoot, direct and edit their own films under the guidance of professional and experienced tutors. At the end of the week participants had a good idea what filmmaking is all about and will have produced their own short film.
The programme was based in three locations this year, the Courthouse Arts Centre in Tinahely, Wicklow County Campus, Clermont Rathnew and Killruddery House in Bray.
The young filmmakers were professionally tutored by filmmakers Terence White from Wexford, Alan Slattery from Kilkenny and Therese Dalton from Wexford.

Wicklow Young Filmmakers Bursary Awards 2009
Wicklow County Council announced their 2009 Bursary Awards for Young Wicklow Filmmakers.
This initiative, which was started in 2007, alongside Wicked Young Filmmakers Festival, has gone from strength to strength. The bursary awards are for young filmmakers aged between 18 and 25 years of age and successful applicants were selected by a panel of judges including representatives of Wicklow County Arts Office and County Wicklow Film Commission. A total of €2,750 was awarded in 2009.
The awards were presented to the applicants who are deemed ‘Best Short Filmmaker’ across two age categories.
A selection of successful shorts were screened in Greystones Theatre at the end of August alongside Wicked Young Filmmakers Festival and awards were announced and presented at this event.

Both Wicklow County Arts Office and County Wicklow Film Commission feel that these bursary awards represent a substantial investment in developing film resources for young filmmakers in the county.
County Arts Officer Jenny Sherwin says that not only do the awards help to fund filmmakers generally, but the Wicked Film Festival also provides an arena for showcasing work by young emerging filmmakers in the County.
Vibeke Dijkman from County Wicklow Film Commission emphasises how these awards supports the development of film in Wicklow in a very positive way.
