Local Sports Partnership

The National network of Local Sports Partnerships is an Irish Sports Council initiative. The establishment of the Wicklow Local Sports Partnership was an action of the County Development Board Strategy, ‘Outlook’. The Wicklow LSP commenced operations in November 2008, is a supgroup of the County Development Board and is overseen by a Board of Management comprising representatives from statutory bodies, organisations and groups with a remit for, or interest in, sports development.

A Local Sports Strategy for the county, which outlined key policy development and actions for the period 2010 – 2013 was launched in ????

Wicklow Local Sports Partnership has three main functions under its remit:

Information Provision

Establishing a Sports Forum, identifying local needs and undertaking research.

Education

Providing opportunities for education and access to sport-specific courses

Implementation

Implementing the Local Sports Strategy, delivering programmes and marketing and promotion of sport.

The aims of the Local Sports Partnership are

  • To increase participation in sport and physical recreational activity among specific target groups (e.g. women/girls, youth, older adults, people with disabilities, unemployed, minority groups and those living in disadvantaged area)
  • To ensure local resources are used to best effect.

In addition to running sports and physical activity programmes with local agencies and groups, the Local Sports Partnership is responsible for the delivery of core Irish Sports Council Participation Programmes.
