Strategy for future development

The Strategic Plan (2008 to 2013) adopted by Wicklow County Council for the Wicklow County Campus presents a broad macro-vision. The opening Mission Statement states that:

'Wicklow County Campus is being developed by Wicklow County Council to be a Centre of Excellence in Enterprise, Education and Innovation in County Wicklow and to act as a catalyst for Economic Development in the County. Wicklow County Campus is committed to the promotion of higher education and training through the provision of internationally recognised higher education opportunities, enterprise support programmes and other economic development activities'.

The overall concept for Wicklow County Campus is to create a business and enterprise campus that incorporates third level education, a business quarter specifically geared towards accommodating innovative enterprises in specific sectors such as renewable energy sources or medical devices, as well as incubation facilities for spin off companies flowing out of academic research.

It is the vision of Wicklow County Council to develop the campus to become a highly innovative hub that combines education with research and innovation, driven by established and successful companies on site.

Wicklow County Council is committed to advancing high quality development on a campus setting, which fits in with the objectives of the planning and economic development policies set out in the County Wicklow Draft Development Plan 2010-2016 and the Wicklow Environs and Rathnew Local Area Plan 2008-2014. Astrong partnership is in place with the national development agencies such as IDAIreland and Enterprise Ireland and local development agencies, such as The Wicklow County Enterprise Board, County Wicklow Partnership etc., to achieve this vision and to create a high quality environment for a thriving business quarter on the campus.

A large part of the campus site will be offered for sale, lease or rent for high end businesses wishing to locate within the campus.

Renewable Energy Vision Document

In addition to the Strategic Plan, a Vision document was prepared in consultation with a wide range of private and public interested parties in 2009.

This Vision document for Wicklow County Campus places renewable energy technologies and sustainable design at its core by aspiring to develop a Business and Enterprise Park for the development and manufacture of renewable energy goods.

The Vision document also identifies the provision of training and up-skilling in the area of renewable energy technologies as essential to the overall strategy for the campus.
