Hazardous Household Waste
Much of what we throw in our bins is actually hazardous waste, which can be harmful to the environment.
Instead of binning your hazardous waste, why not bring it to hazardous waste collection? The collections
are in January, April, July and October at different locations across the county. You'll be doing the
environment a favour, and saving money for yourself.
What is hazardous waste?
Household Hazardous Wastes contain substances that are poisonous, corrosive or flammable
(paints, paint thinners, varnishes, adhesives, antifreeze, solvents, aerosols, inks, resins, waste engine oil,
gear and lubricating oil, weed killers, fungicides,
pesticides and insect killers, poisons, energy saving light bulbs, fluorescent tubes, thermometers, lead acid
batteries, Ni-cd batteries, mercury dry cells, photographic chemicals, waste medicines, printer cartridges,
ribbons and toners, polishes, metal cleaners, drain cleaners, oven cleaners, organic solvents, caustic soda). For information

Note: for householders only
Please also note that household batteries may be left at any County Council office, Town Council office or recycling centre in Wicklow.
More Information
The collection is carried out by Rilta Environmental Ltd. in the Chemcar on behalf of Wicklow County Council under Hazardous Waste Licensing Legislation.
It is not always possible to predict the amount of hazardous waste materials which will be delivered to the collections. As materials must be kept separately,
stored and sealed in protective containers in the Chemcar and because they are hazardous, there is a limit to the space available for each type of item.
Materials may not be left at the locations outside of collection times. Fines for littering will be issued.
CHEMCAR collections are provided by Wicklow County Council and part sponsored by Shering-Plough Ltd. Avondale, Rathdrum
