Waste Management - Overview
You are producing over twice as much household and commercial waste, as we did 10 years ago. Waste generation has been increasing in tandem with our increasing consumption of goods and services. Virtually all raw materials used and all products produced will sooner or later become waste requiring management by recycling or disposal.
Good progress continues to be made towards local, national and EU waste recycling targets- but we are not reducing the amount of waste produced.
There are sustainable and easy ways to deal with our waste—it's simple. If we all reduce the amount of rubbish we produce and buy, reuse more of the products we already have and recycle as much as possible, we will dramatically reduce our waste levels.
- Reduce and reuse more
Reduce waste before it happens by clever buying and reusing what you can.
- Recycle more
You'll cut down on about 30% of your waste, and its free and easy.
- Start Composting
Up to 50% of your kitchen and garden waste can be composted.
- Deal with your hazardous waste
Dispose of your hazardous waste properly, which can harm the environment.
- Stop Junk Mail
Junk mail is often a wasteful nuisance. Find out how to opt-out of the mailing list for Junk Mail.
Our Waste Management Plan
Wicklow County Council has drawn up a waste management plan for the county that outlines the methods and infrastructure that should be put in place to meet the needs of a growing population, effective until 2011. You can download it and take a look here.
