Eastern and South Eastern River Basin District

Many rivers in Ireland flow through more than one county, water quality must now be dealt with on a River Basin level. Wicklow is in two River Basin districts, The Eastern and the South-eastern River Basin. Therefore Wicklow County Council in conjunction with the other Local Authorities in both River Basin Districts graded all the water bodies.

A draft plan has been published for each River Basin district listing the proposed measures to bring all those failing the quality standards up to Good Status by 2015. Both plans, called the Eastern River Basin Management Plan and the South Eastern River Basin Management Plan, can be found in the Foyer of County Buildings, on the Eastern River Basin District Project Website or on the South Eastern River Basin District Website. There are comment forms available at reception or on the websites till July 2009 where anyone wishing to make a comment on the plan can do so.
