Wicklow Water Supply Scheme
Contract 2A – Cronroe to Broomhall
The Environment Department of Wicklow County Council wishes to advise that pipe laying works will commence in the Ashford, Cronroe, Milltown and Rathnew areas from August 2010. These works form part of the Wicklow Water Supply Scheme Contract 2A – Cronroe to Broomhall. The overall objective of the Wicklow Water Supply Scheme is to secure and improve the water supply to Wicklow town and its surrounding areas including Ashford and Rathnew.
The route of this new 600mm diameter watermain is through the Coillte forestry land at Cronroe/Ballymacahara and along the sections of the public roads at Cronroe, Milltown, Rathnew and Broomhall (see Key Plan map). The following road closures are likely to be put in place in order to facilitate the works:
- Closure of portion of Ashford-Glenealy Road L1096
- Closure of Cronroe Lane L5097
- Closure of portion of Milltown Lane L5597 from Cronroe Lane to junction with Rathnew-Glenealy Road
- Closure of portion of R772 at Rathnew (old N11 to Wexford)
Traffic management and partial road closures will be required on the Rathnew-Glenealy Road R752 to facilitate road crossings. These road closures will occur on a rolling basis with appropriate alternative road diversions being put in place. The Council, in conjunction with the appointed contractor, will maintain local access for residents and landowners along the affected routes, however some minor temporary localised disruption may arise from time to time. Notification of these road closures, along with dates and information, will be published in local and/or national newspapers in due course.
