Wastewater Discharge (Authorisation) Regulations 2007 (SI 864 of 2007)
These Regulations provide for the authorisation (Licence) by the
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) of discharges from local authority
wastewater treatment plants and wastewater collection systems to receiving
waters. The Regulations may be viewed on

- Since December 2007 all local authorities must apply to the EPA to obtain Licences for these discharges.
- The EPA will stipulate conditions in the Licence to ensure compliance with the standards for various discharge parameters and conformity with obligations under various EU environmental Directives. The EPA will periodically review Licences granted by it.
- The application process started in December 2007 and finished in December 2009. The EPA is
in the process of granting licences granted by it.
- To date, Wicklow County Council has been granted 6 Licences - Greystones, Wicklow
Town, Rathdrum, Laragh and Ballinaclash.

- Also, you may view the environmental information file relating to the licenced discharges at the Water and Environmental Services Section, Wicklow Co. Council, County Buildings, Wicklow from 9.00 a.m. to 3.30 p.m. Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays). The environmental information file contains a copy of the Licence, all correspondence with the EPA, environmental monitoring results and any complaints of an environmental nature relating to the discharge.
