Non–Principal Private Residence Charges (NPPR)

The Local Government (Charges) Act 2009 introduces a €200 annual charge on non principal private residences, payable by the owner(s) of NPPR(s) to the Local Authority in whose area the property concerned is located. Please see below for information regarding the 2012 charge and other frequently asked questions. Further information is available on the NPPR website

2012 Charge
Collection of the Non Principal Private Residence charge for 2012 will commence on the
31st March
2012.
The 2012 charge is based upon the ownership and status of the property on the
31st March 2012. Please note that you must pay the 2012 NPPR charge on or before
the 30th June in order to avoid late payment fees.
Previous NPPR Charge Liability Dates
- 2009 Charge Liability Date: 31st July 2009
- 2010 Charge Liability Date: 31st March 2010
- 2011 Charge Liability Date: 31st March 2011
Late Payment Fees
Late payment fees for the 2012 charge will come into effect on the 1st July 2012. Late payment fees for previous charge years are effective from three months after the relevant liability date and continue to accrue until the amount owing is discharged.
- Late payment fees for the 2009 liability are effective from the 1st November 2009
- Late payment fees for the 2010 liability are effective from the
1st July 2010
- Late payment fees for the 2011 liability are effective from
the 1st July 2011
- Late payment fees for the 2012 liability are effective from
the 1st July 2012

Important Note
RAS Properties
Please note that
from 2012, the NPPR
charge applies to properties under the Rental Accommodation Scheme.
Household Charge
The €100 household charge applies to residential property generally, including those properties that are liable for the €200 charge on Non-Principal Private Residences.
