Wicklow County Fire Services - Introduction

Operations
Wicklow County Council is the Fire Authority for all of County Wicklow including
the Town Council areas of Bray, Wicklow and Arklow. Each year between 800 and
1000 calls are attended by the County's firefighters, ranging from chimney
fires to factory fires to road traffic accidents. Wicklow Fire Service has 99
Fire-Fighters based throughout the county in 10 Fire Stations.
Fire Prevention
The Fire Prevention section of Wicklow Fire Service makes decisions on
approximately 250 Fire Safety Certificates per year. Existing buildings are
inspected under the Fire Services Acts 1981 and 2003 to ensure compliance with
Fire Safety Regulations. Fire Officers have the powers to serve a Fire Safety
Notice or Closure Notice on buildings that are not in compliance with Fire
Safety Regulations. The Fire Prevention section also plays a key role in
Community Fire Safety. This is an extremely important element of Fire Prevention
as the majority of fire deaths occur in people’s homes. If you require any
information or leaflets or wish to hold a fire safety talk, please contact
Wicklow Fire Service at (01) 286 1534
or e-mail
