The Higher Education Grant Scheme provides financial assistance for approved third level colleges. The scheme is written by the
Department of Education and Science
and is administered by Local Authorities and Vocational Education Committees countrywide.
In accordance with the provisions of the Local Authorities
(Higher Education Grants) Acts, 1968 to 2006, Wicklow County
Council will operate a Higher Education Grants Scheme in 2009
for the award of grants to enable persons to attend at
Institutions of Higher Education in Ireland to pursue full time
degree or postgraduate courses approved for this purpose by
the Minister for Education and Science. Maintenance grants will
also be available for approved undergraduate courses in the
U.K. and Europe.
Update
- The second maintenance cheques were posted to all Irish colleges on 15th January 2010
- Sterling maintenance cheques were posted to colleges 22nd January 2010.
- Fees were paid to all colleges on 7th January for invoices received before 11th December. For invoices received since December cheques will issue the first week in February. If you are waiting for a refund of fees please check that your college has invoiced us.
- For students who have received award letters in December and January maintenance cheques will issue to the colleges during the first week in February.
- If you are starting college in September please check the
Dept of Education website for information. Application forms will be available to download from this site later this year.
- HEG staff will be available to answer any other queries on Tuesday and Thursday mornings between 9.30 and 12.30.

Application Forms must be downloaded from the Department of Education and Science website
Please note, grants may be reassessed if a change of Circumstances has
occurred (loss of job etc). Renewal forms have been issued to all existing grant
holders. If you have not yet received a renewal form, please contact the Higher
