Accessibility
The County Library Service is committed to the Barcelona Declaration and to
working within the framework of the "Library Access" document (National Equality
Authority and Chomhairle Leabharlanna, 2003).
Buildings have been reviewed to ensure accessibility for all.
Optical scanning software for the visually impaired has been acquired and
installed at Bray, Greystones, Wicklow, Arklow and Baltinglass libraries.
This software enables magnification of electronic text, with the capacity for
web pages or scanned text to be read aloud. The service has been promoted
through the National Council for the Blind. Funding for this project has been
provided by the Department for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government.
The following packages are available in Bray, Greystones, Wicklow, Arklow and Baltinglass libraries:
- JAWS Professional for Windows 2000/XP
- Pro Screen reading Magic magnification software
- Kurzweil 1000 (scanning and reading facility)
- Kurzweil 3000 Colour (for Literacy / Dyslexia)
- Kurzweil compatible scanner for Windows 98/ME/XP/2000
Contact any of the five libraries mentioned, in order to book a suitable time to
use this facility.
Mini loop systems have been installed in all libraries.
