Duplicate Drivers Licence or Learner Permit
A duplicate licence is issued to replace a valid licence that has been lost, stolen, destroyed or defaced.
The duplicate will be a copy of the original licence, including any endorsements, and will be valid for the same period.
An application for a duplicate drivers licence or learner permit must be accompanied by:
- Fully completed duplicate application form D800 signed by the applicant and witnessed at a Garda Station
- Two recent identical passport sized photographs (signed on reverse)
- Fee of €10. Please note that persons over 70 are obliged to pay for their duplicate licence
- An original form of identification from the approved list e.g. passport, birth certificate
Notes:
Please note that if the applicant is also changing their address then they are required to submit evidence of the new address
e.g. a utility bill or government letter.
If the original licence is found after obtaining a duplicate licence, the original licence must be surrendered to
your nearest Motor Taxation Office as the original licence is no longer valid.
Where a licence is destroyed/damaged and is no longer readable or considered to be in an acceptable condition but the applicant has
the actual physical licence they are still required to get the duplicate driving licence application form signed in the Garda Station.
They must also surrender the damaged licence with ehir duplicate application to the Motor Taxation Office.
