Blessington Town Pavement Strengthening and Overlay

The Blessington Town centre will undergo a pavement strengthening and overlay commencing in June of 2011. The budget allocated for the works is €700,000.

Wicklow County Council would like to take this opportunity to ask members of the public and businesses along Blessington Main Street for their cooperation, patience and understanding during the period of disruption.

Tinode Lamb Pavement Surfacing Works

This scheme comprises of the resurfacing of 0.8km of the N81 between Tinode and the Lamb Junction.

Funding of €248,000 has been allocated for 2011 and construction works will begin at the end of June 2011.

Mullycagh Bridge Widening and Realignment of the N81

This scheme involves widening the bridge at Mullycagh and realignment of the N81 north and south of the bridge.

Part 8 Planning has currently been undertaken, Tendering is expected to be carried out in July 2011 and construction works are expected to begin by mid September 2011 with completion expected by mid December 2011.

Hearn’s Cross-to Knockroe Bend Pavement Overlay Scheme

This scheme involves pavement overlay of the N81 between Hearn’s cross and Knockroe bend, approximately 1.8km in length, the section at Hollywood cross is not included. A budget of €450,000 has been allocated for this scheme.

Knockroe Bend Realignment

Realignment of 1.0km stretch of the N81. Cost estimate is €2.4m

An allocation of €150,000 for 2011 to cover design work and to commence land acquisition has been sanctioned.

North of Blessington to Tinode Pavement overlay

The pavement overlay is approximately 2.8km in length and consists of the following:

• (a) North of Blessington to Crosschapel 1.7 km
• (b) Crosschapel to Kilteel 0.7 km
• (c) Tinode Section 0.4 km

A budget of €450, 000 has been allocated for this scheme.

N81 Safety Measures

The NRA for completion in 2011 has sanctioned the following list of Safety Schemes.

Annalecky Junction, improvement of sightlines at the junction of the N81 and the two local roads L4317 to Donard and L8316 to Dunlavin.

Hollywood Cross-: improvement of sightlines at the junction of the N81 and the R756.

Whitestown to Ballylionlower: improvement of the junction of the N81 and the R412 to Dunlavin.

Tuckmill Upper: improvement of sightlines of the N81 and the local roads L4310 and the L8291

Whitestown Lower: improvement of sightlines with the N81 and the L4321.

N81 Directional Re-Signage

This project involves upgrading the directional and tourist signage on the N81 in County Wicklow between the county boundaries with South Dublin County Council and Carlow County Council. This project will compliment signage project elsewhere on the National Road network including the M11 / N11.
