Stage I: Assessment (€114.95)
Before the Wicklow Family History Centre can accept a research commission, we must first assess your information on your Wicklow ancestry in order to identify if research is possible. Upon receipt of your completed application form, we assess your information and carry out preliminary research of our Wicklow records in order to identify how much information may be available on your family history. You will receive an Assessment Report containing the following:

(I) The research carried out on your behalf and whether parish records relevant to your ancestry were located.
(II) Where records are found, we will outline the amount of genealogical and other information available and quote you a fee to prepare your Family History Records Pack (Stage Two).
(III) In cases where records are not found in Wicklow, we will offer professional advice and suggestions to assist you in your search for your Irish roots.

Stage II: Family History Records Pack (€250-€350 plus VAT*)
This loose-leaf records pack contains transcripts of all relevant parish records, land and property records, census returns and tombstone inscriptions found for your family, as well as relevant parish and town land maps.

Placing all of this information in context, we also provide contemporary place histories, revealing a wealth of information about where and how your ancestors lived in Wicklow. The result is a contribution to your own personal heritage and sense of place, allowing you to greater appreciate your link to County Wicklow, the birth-place of your ancestors.

OUR RESEARCH SUGGESTIONS

If you would like to find out more about your ancestors after their emigration from County Wicklow, we suggest the following sources:

Death Records
Death Records contain the names of the person deceased and can also provide information on dates of birth and in some cases parentage.

Newspaper Obituaries
When accessible, newspaper obituaries can contain the names of siblings of your ancestor. They can also provide dates and places of burial.

Marriage Records
It is possible that your ancestor will have two marriage records, a civil and a church record. This is a good way to double check all details as well as accessing further information such as the bride and groom’s parents.

Family Documents and Oral History
Find out from other relatives if they hold any relevant information or documents such as Wills, Birth Certificates, written correspondence, etc.

Census Returns
In most cases a country holds a census every ten years. A census can provide valuable information on your ancestor and descendants of your ancestor in the country in which they settled.

Service/Naturalisation Records
Your ancestor may have served in the armed forces or was naturalised, most details such as place of birth, name, date of birth etc. should appear on these documents.

Deeds of Land Holding Records
If your ancestor held property there may be Deeds containing valuable information.

Burial and Cemetery Records and Gravestone Inscriptions
These may have additional information to that which appear on the death record.
