Live Captions for County Council Meetings
Wicklow County Council are the first County Council in Ireland to make their monthly meetings accessible to deaf and hard of hearing viewers.
For some time now Wicklow County Council meetings have been captioned within the Council Chambers on a dedicated plasma screen. Now we have gone that step further offering transparency and accessibility to interested parties worldwide.
Captions of Council meeting can now be viewed here
Communication Access Realtime Translation (CART), simply put is a live conversion of speech to text. This is a high value service to deaf and hard of hearing people, and can also be used by people with English as their second language.
Wicklow County Council have joined together with Premier Captioning and Realtime (PCR), a Wicklow based company to provide this service and we hope that it will ensure that Council Meetings are accessible to all.
