Communities Facilities Grant Scheme 2017

Wicklow Local Community Development Committee invites applications from community and voluntary groups and not-for-profit organisations for small scale capital projects with a clearly defined community and social cohesion focus. These grants are funded by the Department of Housing, Planning, Community and Local Government.

The aim of the scheme is to build strong communities through local projects.

Eligible Facilities include:

Social Inclusion and Community Activation Programme (SICAP)

SICAP is the new Social Inclusion and Community Activation Programme. It aims to tackle poverty, social exclusion and long-term unemployment through local engagement and partnership between disadvantaged individuals, community organisations and public sector agencies. It was rolled out on 1st April 2015 and will run until December 2017. It is the successor programme to the Local and Community Development Programme (LCDP). It is a national programme and following a public procurement process in Wicklow contracts for the implementation of the new programme were awarded.

Local Community Development Committee (LCDC)

The Local Government Act 2014 provides that each Local Community Development Committee (LCDC) will be established as a committee of the Local Authority. The Wicklow LCDC was established in 2014. The LCDC comprises of representatives who are members of the Local Authority, other state agencies, community and voluntary sector and social partners. The balance of representation between the sectors is intended to be balanced in favour of the non-statutory sector. The LCDC is independent of the Local Authority in the discharge of its functions.

Recreation - Recreation Policy

Sport and recreation are part of the broader cultural infrastructure that helps to define the image of an area. It can play a vital role in the economic, social and cultural life of the county, as was recognised in the public consultation that took place for the development of Outlook, the ten-year economic, social and cultural strategy for Co. Wicklow

Recreation - Play Policy

The play policy will guide Wicklow County Council’s approach to play issues and will provide the strategic framework that will guide relevant agencies in the provision and development of play opportunities for the next ten years. Specifically it will:
