Exempt Vehicles

The following vehicles are exempt from liability to pay vehicle motor tax:

  • State-owned vehicles
  • Diplomatic vehicles
  • vehicles exempted under the Disabled Drivers and Disabled Passengers (Tax Concessions)Regulations, 1994 (S.I. No. 353 of 1994)
  • vehicles (including any cycle with an attachment for propelling it by mechanical power)not exceeding 400 kilograms in weight unladen adapted and used for invalids

Other Motortax Services

The Motor Tax Office also provides other motor-tax related services such as:

  • the replacement of motor tax documents which have been lost, stolen or destroyed
  • processing change of ownership for vehicles registered before 1st January 1993
  • processing applications for refund of motor taxation in accordance with government Regulations
  • issuing Trade Plates to garages
  • issuing and renewing licences for Trailers to goods vehicles
  • release of data regarding vehicles to approved bodies.
