A Taste of Wicklow’s Heritage

As Autumn makes its presence felt, a new short video from the Heritage Office of Wicklow County Council documents some of the highlights of Heritage Week 2017 in county Wicklow. Taking place annually the last week of August, National Heritage Week has grown to become Ireland’s largest heritage celebration. This year in county  Wicklow 68 different events took place, many of them repeated several times over the space of nine days giving us a total  tally of over 150. The vast majority of  events are organised and run by interested individuals and groups throughout the county, and over 75% of events this year  were free of charge and family friendly. The 2017 theme of,  ‘It’s in Your Nature’ provided the opportunity to showcase the beautiful  natural environment and landscape of Wicklow and this video produced by Good Co Digital aims to capture a sense of this. The promotion of Heritage Week events in Wicklow is co-ordinated by the Heritage Office of Wicklow County Council as one of the actions of the County Heritage Plan.

A new Heritage Plan has been prepared for county Wicklow and is now in Draft form, with submissions invited to dburns@wicklowcoco.ie by 29th September. All are invited to attend the upcoming Heritage Plan public information sessions in the coming weeks, each  to be held in the following branch libraries at 6 pm; Wicklow 14th Sept, Arklow 19th, Greystones 21st Blessington 26th and Ballywaltrim Library, Boghall Road,  Bray on 27th September.
