Notice to Mariners No. 10 of 2020 - Personal Water Craft

Wicklow Harbour, Chart No. 633, 1121, 1411, 1468

To all ship owners, shipmasters, agents, fishing vessels, pleasure craft users, harbour users, seafarers and fishery organisations.

Personal Water Craft

Please be advised that it is a prosecutable offence (under the Maritime Safety Act 2005) to operate Personal Water Craft (PWC), such as Jet Skis or power boats, either within a harbour or at sea, in such a manner as to cause a nuisance, or endanger other water users, or property.

In addition, it is an offence (under the Beach Bye-Laws for County Wicklow 2012) to operate PWC within 300 metres of the water’s edge of a beach.  Operators of PWC or power boats shall travel at such reduced speed as necessary in the vicinity of bathers and/or other water users so as not to cause them fear or anxiety.

Incidents of misuse of PWC which are endangering others should be reported immediately to the Irish Coast Guard or An Garda Siochana (Dial 999 or 112).

Senior Marine Officer,

Wicklow County Council.
