Elected Members voice concerns on road conditions in Wicklow following Storm Chandra

Statement from Wicklow County Council. Tuesday, 3rd March 2026

At the plenary meeting of Wicklow County Council held on Monday 2nd March 2026, the Elected Members voiced their concerns in relation to the condition of roads throughout the County following storm Chandra. 

In particular the impact the damaged roads are having on the lives of residents, business owners and all road users was discussed at length.

A suspension of standing orders, proposed by Cllr. Avril Cronin, seconded by Cllr. Gerry O'Neill supported by Cllr. Patsy Glennon, Cllr. Pat Mahon, Cllr. Jason Mulhall, and Cllr. Pater Stapleton, amended by Cllr. Joe Behan, seconded by Cllr. Patsy Glennon and supported by all Elected Members called on the Council:

To write to the Department of Transport, Office of the Taoiseach, Wicklow TD's and Senators to seek additional roads funding for emergency repairs as a result of storm Chandra. The estimated cost of road repairs for the Baltinglass MD is €5million, the cost of road repairs for the entire County Wicklow is estimated at €15.6 million. The Council demand the government respond immediately and provide the funding required for County Wicklow.”
