Book Exchange

Details of the schoolbook exchange programme run in the summer months by Wicklow County Council.

During the summer months of June, July and August, Wicklow County Council operates a schoolbook exchange programme in the Arklow, Bray and Wicklow Recycling Centres. Third level students are employed to sort schoolbooks brought to the centres by the public. The students pick out books still on the curriculum that are in good condition, and make them available in the pop-up school bookshop. These books can be purchased for a small fee of €2-€3. The proceeds help to cover the costs of staffing the shop for the summer months.

Books unsuitable for reuse are recycled.

The programme has been very successful in recent years, with up to 30,000 books being brought into the three centres, of which up to 7,000 books go back into circulation for reuse.
