Local Agenda 21

Details of Local Agenda 21, a process that facilitates sustainable development at community level.

Local Agenda 21 is a process that facilitates sustainable development at community level. It is based on participation that respects the social, cultural, economic and environmental needs of the present and future citizens of a community in all its diversity, and that relates that community and its future to the regional, national and international community of which it is a part. Any Local Agenda 21 project will take into account the quality of life of the entire community in the long term, will include a high level of participation at local level and is integrated into other aspects of community life.

Local Agenda 21 Environmental Partnership Fund

Do you have a project or initiative that could help to increase awareness of environmental issues locally, or that could help your community to become more sustainable? If so, you may qualify for financial assistance from the Local Agenda 21 (LA21) Environmental Partnership Fund. This Fund promotes sustainable development by assisting small scale, non-profit environmental projects at local level.

Does your project qualify?
Projects should focus on environmental awareness and actions that complement national environmental policies such as those on waste, biodiversity, water conservation and climate change.

A wide variety of projects and schemes have been supported under the Fund in previous years, including community gardens and allotments, compost schemes, rainwater harvesting, biodiversity projects, waste reduction initiatives, educational initiatives and environmental exhibitions.
