FAQ's

Answers to some of the the most common questions about Wicklow Library services.
How do I join the library?
  • Joining the library is free!
  • You can join at any age but children and young people under the age of 18 must get the permission of a parent or guardian to join the library. Parents/guardians are responsible for their children in the library, and for their children’s selections and use of library materials and services, including access to the internet and online resources.
  • Children can join accompanied by an adult with proof of address.
  • Alternatively, you can apply online for a public library card. You can collect your library card in any Wicklow branch, just bring proof of your current address.
What do I do if I lose my library card?

Call into your local branch with proof of ID to obtain a replacement card.

How do I renew my books?

You can renew online, or you can contact your local branch via phone or email or in person.

How do I log into my account?

You can log into your library account online here.

You will need your library card number (below the barcode on your library card) and your PIN.

How do I reserve an item?
  • You can reserve, or place a 'hold' on, items when logged into your account.
  • You can have 12 reservations or holds at any one time. (In Encore a reserve is called a hold.)
  • If a particular item is reservable the 'Request It' button will be displayed.
  • Click on the button and you will be asked to select the branch you wish to pick the book up at.
  • There is no charge for placing holds online.
How do I find my PIN?

If you are unsure of your account PIN please call in person to your local library with proof of ID, or see below.

How do I reset my PIN?

If you have forgotten your PIN and have an email address associated with your library account, you can reset your PIN here.

If you don't have a PIN and you haven't given us your email address then you'll need to contact your branch. We will be able to assign you a new PIN.

Wicklow library members can use their cards in any library authority within the Republic of Ireland. Items borrowed in one branch can also be returned anywhere else in the country.

Can I search the library catalogue from home?

Can children use the PCs?
  • Children between 12 and 16 may use the PCs after a guardian signs a consent form in their local library.
  • Under 12s may only use the PCs when supervised by a guardian who has also signed a consent form.
Why can't I renew my book?
  • Items may only be renewed three times.
  • Items cannot be renewed if requested by another borrower.
  • If a borrower’s membership has expired, it is not possible to renew items.
How will I know when the item I've requested is ready for collection?

You will receive either an email, a text message, or a phone call to alert you depending on your preferred method of notifications.
