Taking in Charge of a Housing Estate

Details of Wicklow County Council’s policy in relation to taking in charge of private housing developments.

The Taking in Charge document outlines Wicklow County Council’s policy in relation to taking in charge of private housing developments (developments of two or more houses).

For all private housing developments, the following elements of a development will be considered by the Council for taking in charge:

  • Roads and footways
  • Water mains
  • Surface water sewers
  • Foul sewers
  • Open spaces
  • Public lighting (taken in charge separately)

Liability and responsibility for the above elements of a development will remain with the developer until such time as Wicklow County Council has taken them in charge.

Notice of estates to be taken in charge

Wicklow County Council are considering making an Order that the following housing estates listed hereunder be taken in charge with roads being declared as public roads.

Housing Estates

  • Ballycrone Manor (Phase One), Kilcoole
  • Carrig Mill, Greystones
  • Glenkeen, Kilcoole
  • Hazel Hill, Annacurragh
  • Marlton Hall, Wicklow
  • Rathluain (excluding WWTP), Dunlavin
  • Riverview Heights, Arklow
  • Rosehill (old Town Council area), Wicklow

Maps of the housing estates showing the roads and open spaces to be taken in charge may be inspected at the offices of the Planning Directorate of Wicklow County Council, County Buildings Station Road, Wicklow Town during normal opening hours or  here on the Council’s website until 12th November 2018.

Objections or representations may be made in writing not later than 26th November 2018 to Mr. Sean Quirke, Director of Services, Planning, Development and Environment.
