About the Scheme
The Bray Dart Interchange Project aims to provide a high-quality public realm interchange between the key transport modes of walking, cycling, taxi, bus and rail at Bray Train Station.
A Wicklow County Council Active Travel project, funded by the National Transport Authority and designed by Atkins Réalis Consultancy, it will provide a high-quality public realm that complements the heritage of the station buildings.
Part 8 approval for the Bray Dart Interchange Project was granted in March of 2019. This development will ultimately benefit the transport interchange by promoting active street edges and thereby encouraging commercial activity, which will breathe new life into the surrounding area.
Key Features
The key features of the project will consist of:
- Construction of realigned bus interchange facilities to provide a more comfortable and safer experience for customers, with better bus parking and taxi spaces.
- Upgrading of pedestrian facilities in the area, through the provision of new widened footpaths and pedestrian crossings.
- Landscaping features to enhance the public space, installation of new seating areas, tree planting and introduction of cycle parking.
- The re-configuration of existing carriageway, footways, and shared accesses as well as associated drainage and ducting.
- Supporting the reallocation of road space for improved sustainable transport infrastructure
- Works to underground electricity supply.
- Extensive works to the surface water drainage system for the areas under construction.
Taxi Rank
The completed scheme will include for a taxi rank on Station Road, to the north of Daly Station entrance.
During the construction phase of the Station Road works, taxis will be required to relocate to temporary locations in the vicinity to accommodate these works.
Works are scheduled to begin on Station Road at the end of August.
Advanced notice will be provided and information on the temporary taxi locations will be posted to assist the public.
Construction and Location of works
David Walsh Civil Engineering has been appointed to deliver the project which is due to commence in February 2024.
The area of works will include sections of
- Station Road
- Quinsborough Road
- Florence Road
- Adelaide Road
- Strand Road
During the above, there will be some disruption as the works on the footpaths moves past doorways / entrances, however we will endeavor to keep this disruption to a minimum.
Some carpark spaces within the construction areas will also need to be removed to facilitate the proposed works.
Bus Stops will also need to be relocated, with consultation with the transport operators to facilitate the works. Traffic diversions and road closures will also need to be implemented during the course of the works.
Construction will be on a phased basis with access to businesses, residences, public transport and amenities maintained throughout the programme of works. Alternative access routes required during construction will be highlighted in advance with all stakeholders.
The project is estimated to be completed in 12 months, subject to favourable conditions.

Phase One
Phase One construction works will begin the week commencing 19th February.
They will involve the laying of the main stormwater drainage line for the project and will include works on the south side Quinsborough Road (between the Railway Line and the Promenade adjacent to Strand Road).
Traffic management will be in place for the duration of the works and will initially consist of pedestrian diversions on the Promenade and stop and go on the Strand Road.
When the project requires a change to the traffic management arrangement, further advance notification will be given.
