Comhairle Na Nóg Youth Summit Brings Young Voices Together in Wicklow

Young people from across County Wicklow gathered on 4th November 2025, for the annual Comhairle na nÓg Youth Summit, which took place from 10am to 3pm. The event was organised by Comhairle na nÓg Coordinator, Cllr. Caroline Winstanley, to empower youth voices and provide a platform for meaningful engagement with local decision-makers.

Cllr. Winstanley, as Comhairle na nÓg Coordinator, reached out to schools, youth clubs and youth projects in the county to ensure that all young people had the opportunity to attend. The Summit featured workshops, discussions and interactive sessions focused on issues that matter most to young people, including mental health, climate action, equality and youth services.

The event aimed to foster civic participation and equip young people with the tools they need to influence change in their communities. It also provided a space for them to connect, collaborate and share ideas with peers and local leaders.

Cathaoirleach of Wicklow County Council, Cllr. Melanie Corrigan said, "The Youth Summit is a powerful reminder of the energy and insight young people bring to our communities. Wicklow County Council is proud to support Comhairle na nÓg in giving young people a voice and a platform to shape the future of our county."

Chief Executive of Wicklow County Council Emer OGorman commented: "This event reflects our commitment to inclusive decision-making and youth empowerment. By listening to young people and supporting their ideas, we are building a stronger, more responsive Wicklow for everyone."

Director of Services, Wicklow County Council, Michael Nicholson, added:
"The Youth Summit showcases the creativity and leadership of Wicklows young people. Its inspiring to see their passion for making a difference, and we look forward to supporting their initiatives going forward.”

Comhairle na nÓg committee member Oscar Kavannagh said:

“I am beyond happy with how the day went, Comhairle is young people and to have the young people of Wicklow so vocal and so engaged is a massive achievement for Comhairle and for the whole county.
