Funding Update: Local Enhancement Programme 2025
On Friday, 13th June 2025, Minister for Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht, Dara Calleary TD and Minister of State with responsibility for Community Development and Charities, Jerry Buttimer TD, announced the successful projects in Co. Wicklow under the Local Enhancement Programme (LEP) 2025.
The Local Enhancement Programme 2025 was launched in November 2025 with funding of €199,044 allocated to County Wicklow. This funding included €170,609 in capital funding to support community and voluntary groups, particularly in disadvantaged areas, to carry out works and improvements to facilities, as well as the purchase of equipment for community use. Additionally, €28,435 in current funding was provided to support local groups with ongoing operational costs. A total of 235 community groups in County Wicklow have successfully received funding under this scheme.
The Department of Rural and Community Development and Gaeltacht’s Local Enhancement Programme 2025 is administered by Local Community Development Committees, with support from the Local Authority.
Cathaoirleach of Wicklow County Council Cllr. Paul O’Brien welcomed the announcement “The Local Enhancement Programme funding is invaluable for so many groups and clubs that work tirelessly to improve our local communities and provide essential activities around the county.”
Chief Executive of Wicklow County Council, Emer O’Gorman highlighted the importance of the funding said “This funding represents a significant investment in our communities. It will empower and support local groups and organisations at a grassroots level to continue their work in delivering important community projects and services.”
Minister Buttimer also stated “The Local Enhancement Programme is about giving a helping hand to our local groups and clubs, who are the building blocks of Irish community life.”
Minister Calleary added “The impact of the Local Enhancement Programme is considerable, and it allows community groups to carry out the invaluable work they do on behalf of others in local areas throughout the country”.
