Statement from Wicklow County Council - Storm Chandra Update
Provisions are currently being put in place for those affected by Storm Chandra, including residents situated in properties based in Riverfield, Aughrim.
The Pavilion, Aughrim is currently operating as a day hub and can function as a rest centre. The Civil Defence have approximately 60 beds available for use, if required. The Rest Centre is available for overnight accommodation, with 20 beds initially available. Catering will be facilitated, along with support staff and security on standby.
The Community Support Centre is available for members of the public seeking an area to shelter, with tea and coffee facilities available, along with toilet facilities and phone charging stations.
The Fire Service and Civil Defence are on the ground, and have linked in with residents, informing them of the provisions in place.
All areas within the Arklow, Wicklow, Bray, Greystones and Baltinglass Municipal Districts are continuing to be closely monitored, following the impacts of present weather conditions.
Localised flooding has occurred on some roads in each area; these will be closed and re-opened throughout the day as appropriate.
District outdoor staff and drainage contractors have been responding to flooding events across the districts since yesterday evening and are continuing to respond as flooding issues arise.
The N11 Northbound Lane at Kilmacanogue has been severely impacted and the maintenance contractor (Globalvia Jons) have crews on site dealing with the situation. Updates will be circulated on our social media platforms.
Emergency services have responded to areas where there has been a high impact of flooding of properties and dwellings.
Sandbags are available for the public to collect from the district council depots and are being restocked.
Wicklow County Council are urging the public to heed warnings already in place, and to avoid areas which are currently flooded.
The Department of Social Protection has announced that the Emergency Response Payment (formerly the Humanitarian Assistance Scheme) is now available to provide support to those living in properties directly affected by Storm Chandra in County Wicklow.
