Gorse Fire Update

Operations were scaled back overnight due to darkness. By that stage, the fire had been contained and was monitored throughout the night by the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS).

Resources involved in the response included three fire crews from Wicklow County Fire Service, two fire crews from Dublin Fire Brigade, and two firefighting crews from the NPWS. Coillte provided an excavator to create water sources close to the fire, while helicopter support was provided by the NPWS and the Air Corps, coordinated by the National Directorate for Fire and Emergency Management.

A fire crew from Wicklow County Fire Service and the NPWS, recommenced operations this morning (18 July) to ensure the fire remains contained and to prevent any smouldering hotspots from spreading into unburnt areas.

Members of the public are asked to remain vigilant and avoid the affected area.

Wicklow County Fire Service would like to thank all agencies involved for their assistance and cooperation throughout this incident.
