Wicklow County Council, in collaboration with the Newtownmountkennedy Town Team, were delighted with the strong community turnout for the third and final public consultation on the Newtownmountkennedy Town Centre First plan. This event took place on Monday, 29th September 2025, and was facilitated by the appointed consultants, ACT.
Residents, business owners, local groups, and community representatives attended the event to receive updates on the plan’s progress and to discuss future actions that will be included in the developing Newtownmountkennedy Town Centre First Plan.
The recent workshop, titled “Pathways to Delivery,” built upon the views, ideas and priorities gathered during the previous two workshops held in June and August 2025. It explored the implementation routes for key capital proposals aligned with the Masterplan vision. During the workshop, Masterplan proposals and ideas were discussed in greater detail, allowing the community to view the Masterplan vision and talk about implementation strategies. ACT is currently reviewing all the feedback and input received from the community.
The next step is the unveiling of the Masterplan, which will incorporate community input and present a clear vision for the sustainable growth of Newtownmountkennedy. Further details about the presentation of the Masterplan will be announced in due course.
This initiative is part of the national Town Centre First policy, which is funded by the Department of Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht.
Cllr. Danny Alvey, who attended the workshops, expressed his appreciation to the consultants, ACT, and to all participants. “It was great to hear all of the ideas and suggestions from local residents and community groups put forward across these three workshops. The consultants, ACT, had a tough job to pull them all together into a workable future blueprint for how the town should develop and improve. But the proposed town plan presented at the final workshop was very impressive and exciting. I look forward to continue working with the Newtownmountkennedy Town Team and the Wicklow County Council Town Regeneration Office to try make this plan a reality in the coming years."
Cllr. Shane Langrell remarked, “I am delighted that so many people have engaged in this project. By coming together and sharing ideas, we can shape a project that truly benefits everyone in our community, ensuring that Newtownmountkennedy can thrive for generations to come.”
Chief Executive of Wicklow County Council, Emer O’Gorman, commented, “This collaboration between elected members, the Town Team, the Town Regeneration Office and local residents has been critical in informing a Masterplan. It ensures that Newtownmountkennedy’s development reflects the needs and ambitions of this community. This plan, supported through the Town Centre First policy, is an exciting opportunity to strengthen the future of Newtownmountkennedy.”
