NTA and Wicklow Sports & Recreation Partnership Launch Bike Week 2025

The National Transport Authority (NTA) and Wicklow Sports & Recreation Partnership have announced the details of Bike Week 2025, which will take place from Saturday, 10th May to Sunday, 18th May.

One of the highlight events in County Wicklow is the flagship Wicklow Town Bike Week Festival, scheduled for Thursday 15th May from 4pm to 7pm. This lively, family-friendly event will be held in the Murrough Car Park, located in the heart of the town. Attendees can look forward to exciting activities such as the thrilling Street Velodrome, outdoor spin classes in collaboration with Coral Leisure, hands-on bike maintenance workshops, Learn to Cycle sessions and a creative "Pimp My Bike" station where children can decorate their bikes with fun and playful accessories.

Please note that the Murrough Car Park will be closed for the duration of the festival to accommodate the activities and ensure a safe, traffic-free environment for all attendees.

Bike Week is an annual celebration promoting the benefits of cycling, with hundreds of family-friendly events across the country, including heritage cycles, maintenance workshops and learn-to-cycle courses.

All 31 local authority areas are involved in Bike Week, with events organised jointly through the  local authorities and local sports partnerships.

Hugh Creegan, Acting CEO of the NTA, emphasised the importance of the week, stating: “The engagement from local authorities and sports partnerships has once again been fantastic this year. It’s wonderful to see so many events taking place around the country. There really is something for everyone, from popular family bike festivals and community cycles to local heritage and greenway cycles to school events. I encourage everybody to get involved.”

Cathaoirleach of Wicklow County Council, Cllr. Paul O’Brien, added: “Bike Week is a wonderful opportunity for families, individuals, and communities to get out and experience the joy of cycling. Events like our Wicklow Town Bike Week Festival showcase how fun, inclusive and community-driven cycling can be. It’s a highlight of the week, and we take great pride in it.”

Emer O’Gorman, Chief Executive of Wicklow County Council, stated: “Wicklow County Council is thrilled to support Bike Week again this year, particularly events like the Wicklow Town Bike Week Festival which encourages everyone to become active and enjoy cycling.”
