Statement from Wicklow County Council - Storm Chandra Update

Provisions have been put in place for those affected by Storm Chandra, including residents situated in properties based in Riverfield, Aughrim.

The Pavilion, Aughrim is currently operating as a day hub and can function as a rest centre. The overnight rest centre will close today, but the day hub will remain open.

The Community Support Centre is available for members of the public seeking an area to shelter, with tea and coffee facilities available, along with toilet facilities and phone charging stations.

The Fire Service and Civil Defence are on the ground, and have linked in with residents, informing them of the provisions in place.

All areas within the Arklow, Wicklow, Bray, Greystones and Baltinglass Municipal Districts are continuing to be closely monitored, following the impacts of the weather conditions.

The N11 Northbound Lane at Kilmacanogue was severely impacted, but this is fully operational again.

Localised flooding occurred on some roads in each area; these are being monitored and re-opened as appropriate.

District outdoor staff and drainage contractors will continue to respond to flooding events across the districts.Sandbags are available for the public to collect from the district council depots and are being restocked.

Wicklow County Council are urging the public to please drive carefully, as weather events and flooding have caused debris to be washed onto road surfaces and damage has been caused. Crews are out inspecting and making repairs.

The Department of Social Protection has announced that the Emergency Response Payment (formerly the Humanitarian Assistance Scheme) is now available to provide support to those living in properties directly affected by Storm Chandra in County Wicklow.
