Wicklow County Council is committed to, and supports the NBP and the build-out of all essential telecommunications infrastructure.
In Co. Wicklow, State intervention is required for approximately 16,000 premises (23% of total premises). NBI have passed over 14,000 premises with Fibre to the Home (FttH). The outstanding Deployment Area of Coolkenno is expected to be completed in Oct-Dec 2026.
In parallel with this rollout by NBI
- OpenEir has completed 45,000 FttH homes passed, and their target is approximately 59,000 homes passed (National Fibre Broadband Ireland | Open Eir).
- Siro has rolled out FttH to 28,000 homes in Arklow, Ashford, Blessington, Bray, Greystones, Kilcoole and Wicklow (SIRO’S Fibre Broadband Expands In Ashford Village - SIRO).
- Virgin Media is also upgrading it’s cable TV network to be Gigabit capable. As of May 2025 this upgrade programme has reached 550,00 homes. Their national target is to upgrade 1 million premises to fibre by end of 2026. Virgin Media fibre upgrade reaches 550,000 homes.
