Wicklow Artists Salon #8: Success and failure
7th May 2024, Mermaid Arts Centre
Guest Artists
- Moderator: Ann Mulrooney, Studio Manager of Cartoon Saloon
- Theatremaker: Julie Kelleher
- Filmmaker: Johnny O’Reilly
- Visual Artist: Maïa Nunes
At this salon, three artists with exciting, varied practices will share their work and their experiences of success and failure. What does artistic success and failure mean to them? How has their understanding of success and failure altered during their careers? What are significant examples of failure and success and how did those experiences affect their subsequent work? We will explore these and other questions. And as always at the salon, there will be time for group discussion and mingling over tea and coffee.
The Wicklow Artists Salon is an artist-run event which explores important themes affecting artists and cultural practitioners. A friendly, inclusive space, each salon
holds a moderated discussion with multidisciplinary guest artists which then opens into conversations with attendees. It aims to seed learning, interactions and perhaps collaborations among participants. The programme is curated by visual artist Joanna Kidney and writer Philip St John. Crucially, it is supported by The Arts Council of Ireland; Wicklow County Arts Office; Mermaid Arts Centre; The Courthouse Arts Centre and Killruddery House.
Content advisory: Please note that part of this salon will feature images from and discussion of the war in the Ukraine (where film-maker Johnny O’Reilly is making a documentary).
