Active Travel Scheme (Section 38) Road Traffic Act 1994 - Coolgreaney Road

Wicklow County Council proposes to undertake construction of traffic calming measures for pedestrian improvements along a section of Coolgreaney Road, Arklow, Co Wicklow. These designs have been developed based on best practice and guidance.

Wicklow County Council is responsible for the procurement and coordination for the design and implementation of this scheme approved by the National Transport Authority (NTA). All proposed works will be carried out in partnership with the NTA.

The proposed scheme will consist of: 

  1. 2 New Pedestrian crossings along Coolgreaney Road.
  2. Junction tightening, footpath construction and landscaping at Cherryfield, Oaklands, Lamberton Heights/Lamberton Grove, Lamberton Avenue.
  3. Associated drainage works, road markings and signage.

The objective of this scheme is to improve pedestrian safety, accessibility and provide traffic calming in the area.

Drawings are available for inspection on the Consultation Hub on Wicklow County Council’s website https://www.wicklow.ie/Living/ConsultationHub, and on display in Arklow Municipal District, Castle Park, Arklow Co. Wicklow Y14 FX63 from Wednesday 19th August to Wednesday 2nd September 2026.

It is intended to undertake the proposed works between Q3 - Q4 2026.

The Council will consider any submissions or observations made in writing regarding the proposal. Submissions should be lodged with the Active Travel Team, Arklow MD District Office, Castle Park, Arklow, Y14 FX63, by email to activetravel@wicklowcoco.ie , or via the Consultation Hub Portal, to be received by 5pm on 2nd September 2026.

Please note that comments, including names of those making comments, submitted to the Council regarding this process may form part of the report for recording and publication of the decision following the outcome of the consultation process. The report shall be circulated to the elected members. Accordingly, they may also appear in the public domain.
