Halloween Fire Safety

Keep Halloween Safe For Everyone

Halloween should be fun, but bonfires, fireworks, costumes and decorations can present serious fire risks.

Wicklow County Fire Service is encouraging everyone to take a few simple precautions to enjoy a safer Halloween.

BONFIRE SAFETY

  • Only attend organsied bonfire events
  • Kepp a safe distance and always supervise children
  • Never burn tyres, aerosols, gas cylinders or other hazardzous materials 
  • Never run through or jump over a bonfire. 

FIREWORKS

  • Fireworks are dangerous and can cause serious burns, eye injuries and permanent hearing damage
  • Avoid handling or using fireworks and keep your distance from anyone using them
  • Never approach or attempt to relight a firework that has already been lit.

COSTUMES & TRICK-OR-TREATING

  • Keep costumes, masks, wgs away from naked flames. Remember hairspray is highly flammable
  • Use refelctive clothing, bright colours or a torch to improve visability
  • Ensure masks and costumes do not restrict vision or movement

DECORATIONS & CANDLES

  • Choose battery-operated LED candles instead of real flames
  • Never leave candles unattended
  • Keep decorations away from heaters and naked flames. 
  • Avoid overloading sockets or using damaged electrical elads
  • Switch off decorative lights before leaving home or going to bed. 

IF A FIRE BREAKS OUT

Get out, stay out and call 999 or 112 if there is an immediate danger to life or property.
