ARGENTINE AMBASSADOR CELEBRATES CULTURE NIGHT IN BRAY
Culture Night (Oíche Chultúir) is a national celebration of culture, creativity and the arts, aimed at promoting the rich and diverse cultural heritage cherished in our lives.
On Friday 18 September, the Ambassador of Argentina to Ireland, Her Excellency Ana Laura Cachaza and the Deputy Head of Mission Nicolàs Vidal, attended the Holy Redeemer Youth Parish Centre to enjoy the Argentine Tango Experience, presented by Lucía Seva and Gerry Roche, corresponding academicians of the National Tango Academy of Argentina, who now reside in Bray, Co. Wicklow.
The Argentine Tango Experience included a photographic exhibition from the personal collection of Lucía Seva highlighting Buenos Aires, where tango is lived and celebrated every day, a beginner tango class for attendees to learn the basics of tango and culminated in an evening milonga – a social dance gathering filled with music, elegance, and community.
The visit by representatives of the Embassy of Argentina highlights the links between Ireland and Argentina, and the shared cultural traditions between the two countries, with dance, music and social gathering rooted in the local community.
Supported by the Arts Council and Wicklow County Council Arts Office, Culture Night Wicklow 2026 saw thousands of people enjoying over 50 events in 20 locations throughout the county. The offerings included music, visual art, poetry readings, dance, cultural tours, community engagement, participatory workshops, and much more.
Commenting on the events programme, Cathaoirleach of Wicklow County Council Cllr. Dr. Caroline Winstanley stated, “Culture Night was a tremendous success and a wonderful celebration of the diversity, creativity and cultural connections that bring communities together. We were particularly honoured to have the Argentine Ambassador join us in Bray, reflecting the importance of cultural exchange in building understanding and strengthening connections between our countries.”
Chief Executive of Wicklow County Council Emer O’Gorman noted, “Culture Night encourages everyone to come together to explore and discover all that culture and creativity have to offer, and we’re grateful to everyone who attended, participated and helped make the evening such a memorable success across County Wicklow.”
