Notice to Mariners No.18 of 2022 - Increased Traffic Arklow and Wicklow Harbours

Arklow Harbour, Chart No. 633, 1121, 1410, 1411, 1468, 1787

To all ship owners, shipmasters, Agents, fishing vessels, pleasure craft users, seafarers and fishery organisations.

Increased Traffic Arklow and Wicklow Harbours

Please be advised of the following:

In recent weeks there has been an increase in the amount of traffic using both Arklow and Wicklow Harbours.
Commercial Vessel Masters should be aware that during the summer months there will be an increase in the amount of leisure vessels using the harbours.

Some of these vessels, e.g. kayaks, rowing boats, etc. may be small and difficult to see.
Leisure vessel operators should be aware that commercial vessels may be restricted in their ability to manoeuvre, or may be navigating within a Narrow Channel, and may require a wide turning circle or a long stopping distance.

All vessel Masters and Operators are advised that Safety is the priority in the harbours.

In this regard your attention is drawn to The International Regulations for the Prevention of Collisions at Sea.
