Owners of dogs that have worried sheep will be traced and obliged to pay compensation.
Any dog, large or small, may become involved in attacking sheep
MAKE SURE YOUR DOG DOESN’T GET THE CHANCE!
Dog attacks cause real and serious injury to sheep and have a very negative impact, both financially and emotionally, on the farmers involved and their families. Even quiet, docile dogs can turn into killers, especially if they join other dogs.
If you won a dog or dogs you are required under the Control of Dogs Act 1986-2010 to do the following:
Keep your dog under control at all times, this means the dog cannot leave your property unaccompanied and you must make sure it is securely kept in at night.
Ensure that all dogs under your control wear a collar bearing an identity tab with the name, address and contract details of the owners at all times. All dogs must be microchipped and registered and hold a valid licence.
Some breeds of dogs such as Alsatians, Rottweilers, Japanese Akitas, etc must be securely on a lead an muzzled at all times in public.
