UPDATE: Bray to Greystones Cliff Walk

Statement from Wicklow County Council - Friday, 24th April 2026

The Committee met on Wednesday 22nd April 2026 and received a project update from RPS Consultants Ltd, since the last meeting:

  • Ecological site assessment has been undertaken to scope survey locations
  • Procurement process for contractors to undertake detailed slope investigations and methodology required for the Bray side underway
  • Landowner negotiations commenced for the Greystones side
  • Further drone survey of recent storm damage complete and results awaited
  • Technical report on proposal to install steps from North Beach to the Cliff Walk complete and is being reviewed by Wicklow County Council

A comprehensive discussion ensued and the members of the Committee discussed the progress to date. Whilst concerns were expressed about the potential timeline, it was noted that the project is subject to relevant procurement, environmental and ecological constraints.

Wicklow County Council is positively engaged with the affected landowners in relation to the proposed rerouting on the Greystones side and this is progressing at pace.

Chairperson of the Committee, Councillor Erika Doyle welcomed the progress to date and reiterated that the Committee is united in its aim of working with Wicklow County Council towards safely reopening the Cliff Walk.

Wicklow County Council remains committed to progressing with the project in a diligent, safe and environmentally sound manner and in the shortest possible timeframe.

The Cliff Walk remains closed due to the significant safety concerns. An alternative route is available.
