Wicklow County Council awarded €5.7 million under new Towns and Cities Regeneration Investment Fund

Wicklow County Council are delighted to announce they have been awarded €5.7 million under the new Towns and Cities Regeneration Investment Fund.

Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, James Brown TD, today announced funding for several projects across the country and Wicklow County Council were successful with all three applications submitted. 

This new Government investment will fund transformative town and city regeneration projects.

The successful Wicklow projects are:

The Murrough Waterfront Park Enhancement Scheme (Wicklow Town) €5.4 million for the Category 1B funding for the construction stage.

Arklow Quay Plan Development and Wicklow Quay Plan Development, Category 1A projects, received €150,000.00 each to progress plans for the harbour and waterfront areas. Wicklow Town - Rathnew LAP came into effect in 2025; Arklow LPF came into effect in 2026 and this funding will help to build on those plans, developing proposals to promote sustainable development for the harbour areas of each of those town.

Cathaoirleach of Wicklow County Council, Cllr. Dr. Caroline Winstanley, said: “This welcome funding for The Murrough will enhance the area as a place for people to meet in, shop in, work and live in. This project has received great support from the local community including the Wicklow Town Team and local stakeholders”.

Chief Executive of Wicklow County Council, Emer O’ Gorman, added: “Today’s announcement is about investing in our communities which is a key priority for Wicklow County Council. The funding for plans for both Wicklow and Arklow Quays will provide strong basis for sustainable development in those areas. The recently completed Murrough Pump Track was the first stage in enhancing this area and this funding will allow us complete the enhancement of the promenade and surrounding public spaces”.
