Green Schools is Ireland’s leading environmental management and award programme working with both primary and secondary schools. The Green Flag is an internationally recognized award developed by FEEE, The Foundation of Environmental Education for Europe and the programme is operated in Ireland by An Taisce. Wicklow County Council partners with An Taisce and schools in the county, providing support, advice, talks and workshops for schools.
Green schools is an action based programme which is student led and focused on a whole school involvement. Seven steps are used to build an environmental management structure strengthening engagement, sustaining progress and ensuring continued commitment. Each school focuses on identifying actions appropriate to their own circumstances with student ideas coming to the fore. There are opportunities to reach out into the wider community.
Green Schools themes are as follows:
Litter and Waste
Global Citizenship Litter and Waste
Global Citizenship Energy
Global Citizenship Marine Environment
