Wicklow County Council welcomes the recent announcement from the Department of Transport of €10.72m in funding allocated to address the damage caused to regional and local roads across the county by Storm Chandra earlier this year.
Minister for Transport Darragh O’Brien and Ministers of State Seán Canney and Jerry Buttimer allocated the funding as part of an additional €40 million provided to local authorities to undertake necessary work to restore the road infrastructure damaged during the storm.
Commenting on the announcement, Cathaoirleach of Wicklow County Council, Cllr. Dr. Caroline Winstanley stated, “We welcome the funding allocated by the Department to address the significant damage caused to our road network following Storm Chandra earlier this year. The cost to repair our infrastructure is substantial, and this funding is essential in ensuring this work can be undertaken.”
Chief Executive of Wicklow County Council, Emer O’ Gorman commented that, “Wicklow County Council would like to extend our thanks to the Department of Transport for acknowledging the scale of funding required to rectify the damage caused by Storm Chandra across Wicklow. Residents, business owners and all road users were impacted, and we will begin to determine the locations where this funding needs be applied.”
