Sports Meets Wellness At A Packed Greystones Beach Festival

Hundreds of people enjoy an evening of free sports, movement and wellness at Greystones South Beach during Wicklow Outdoors Week 2026.

People of all ages took to Greystones South Beach on Thursday evening to participate in a variety of activities, including sea swimming, beach volleyball, yoga and Pilates, as part of the third annual Greystones Beach Festival.

Organised by Wicklow Sports and Recreation Partnership (WSRP) as part of Wicklow Outdoors Week 2026, the festival provided a relaxed and welcoming environment where people could try something new, get active and enjoy the beach. The event featured a packed programme of free sport and wellness activities throughout the evening.

The beach was buzzing with activity, with introductory sea swimming, beach volleyball, sailing, beach golf, beach hockey, tug-of-war and more, giving participants a taste of the wide range of sporting opportunities that can be enjoyed along Wicklow’s coastline.

In addition to the sporting events, a dedicated wellness area delivered in collaboration with Greystones Wellness Hub offered yoga, Pilates, breathwork and a sunset sound bath, giving visitors the chance to slow down, recharge and explore a different side of outdoor activity.

The upper walkway added to the festival atmosphere with free face painting, sensory activities, rowing machines, giant garden games and interactive stands from local sports clubs and wellness providers. Live music and family entertainment throughout the evening created a lively atmosphere across Greystones South Beach.

Cathaoirleach of Wicklow County Council, Cllr. Dr. Caroline Winstanley, said:
"The Greystones Beach Festival is a wonderful example of how our outdoor spaces can bring people together. It was fantastic to see families, young people and adults enjoying the beach, trying different activities and experiencing everything that was on offer."

Chief Executive of Wicklow County Council, Emer O'Gorman, said:
"The community has really embraced the Greystones Beach Festival, and that has been central to its continued success. It is wonderful to see local organisations and activity providers working together to create an event that encourages people to get outdoors, get active and enjoy Greystones South Beach"

Coordinator of Wicklow Sports and Recreation Partnership, Aisling Hubbard, added:
" To see the festival grow over the past three years has been brilliant. Our team has worked hard to build an event where people can come down to the beach, try a range of sports and hopefully discover an activity they want to continue. The energy and enthusiasm our staff bring to the festival every year is a huge part of its success."

The Greystones Beach Festival is part of Wicklow Outdoors Week, which runs from Monday, 10th August to Sunday, 16th August and provides opportunities for people across the county to experience outdoor recreation and physical activity.

Wicklow Sports and Recreation Partnership thanks all national governing bodies, local sports clubs, activity providers, wellness practitioners, volunteers and community partners who helped make the festival a success, with a special thanks to Greystones Wellness Hub for their collaboration in bringing the wellness element of the festival to life. WSRP also thanked everyone who attended, participated and helped create such a positive atmosphere throughout the evening.
